At Least I Think I Do
Life is not a Wish-Granting Factory
Andrew sat criss-crossed on the cold, sandy beach, his palms face-down on the sandy beach turned slightly cold due to the New York winter forcing itself against the Camp's magical weather-resistance abilities, though broke through the barrier enough to create a slight chill throughout Camp, especially near the Sound. The son of Hades loved this certain chill the most; he didn't know why, though it just seemed fitting with his personality, which has been rather barren, lately, due to his depression. Sometimes, Andrew felt as if he were dying of cancer, slowly and painfully. But the depression was not because he was dying; it was because. The only reason Andrew decided was enough of a reason. Just because.
Andrew shuddered for a moment, but stood still soon after the cold front had gone past. He took a stick from its place in the ground nearby, closed his eyes, inhaled, and threw the limb far out into the sea ahead of him. He watched the stick go below elevation level, then return to the surface, laying still on the water for moments., and thought of this as a metaphor; the stick was him, and it was as if he had been cast out of his comfort zone to a new area, falling into the cracks but then coming back up, saving himself for a while. Andrew didn't know why he'd been thinking of metaphors recently. The only logical reason he could think of at the moment was that his favorite character, Augustus Waters, (whom he admired greatly), from John Green's The Fault in Our Stars, had always lived a life of reasoning metaphors, and Andrew felt as if he were obligated to do so, too. But this all has been beside the storyline, and many of you readers have probably already forgotten the last thing Andrew did. And I'll repeat it, just for the sake of you lazy people who refuse to scroll up and see what he did.
Andrew, after watching the stick for about two minutes ((there's that repeat)), lay on his back and gazed up at the late afternoon sky, slightly dimmed by the seasonal conditions. It was really beautiful, though flawed, like every other thing in the universe. Though, perhaps the one flaw is a perfection disguised as an imperfection. He was almost asleep when the sound of a twig snapping into two disturbed the peacefulness, and he jerked up, twisting his head back to see who it was. "Who's there?" Andrew called out, inquisitively, hoping it was someone he knew and not a total stranger. Another child of Hades, perhaps. Anyone was okay, except....him. Andrew couldn't bear the sight of him. It was too painful. But it was Axel Stone, of course, and Andrew felt the pain. He felt it even though he told himself to feel absolutely nothing. He felt it because pain demands to be felt.

Estelle's eyebrows raised slightly at the bent figure on the sand. It was not exactly a pleasant surprise, as she had aimed to spend her time alone. However, the figure had noticed her, and it would be extremely rude to go back. Of course, not that she would have cared. Still, a tinge of her curiosity was aroused, and she stepped closer. Being a senior camper, Estelle knew most kids at the camp. If she didn't know them, they knew her, at least. The daughter of Athena could recognize the voice as Andrew, the Hades kid.
She wasn't in the mood to be too nice today, and she greeted the kid with her usual coldness. "Hello," she said, a little distant and aloof. An awkward silence ensued, but she took no action to break it. It was rather odd, seeing the raven haired girl sit with the son of Hades in the cold.

Lily stepped out of the cabin, still rubbing at her eyes. The blonde was already feeling the effects of being awfully lonely, and this led to frequent moods. Since she smothered the feelings with sleep, she was sleeping an awful lot these days. Or taking it out on the dummies. Her hands were cracked from the cold, and bloody from punching. Lily examined them, then rubbed them together slightly.
Bag in hand, she started down the road that led away from camp. There, she could choose where to go. Opting for a the calm waters, Lily headed down to the beach. The air was colder there, and particularly windy. Maybe Poseidon was feeling moody today as well. Lily pulled her sweater down as she stepped on the white sand.
The beach seemed more crowded today, considering that it wasn't in the summer. She spotted two figures a little bit away-a dark-haired boy and girl. Was it....Estelle? But who was the boy?
The daughter of Poseidon walked up to the two, and sat down by the boy. Andrew, her mind echoed as she sat down. And yes, Estelle.
"Enjoying the cold?" Lily blew on her ice cold fingers, and looked over the two with a wry smile.

(Sorry, I just now realized people replied. I thought practically all activity on the site had disappeared completely for the past few months.)
Andrew blinked at the girl--Estelle, was it?--as she took a seat next to him. Huh. Not Axel. Thank God; he was almost sure it was Ax, and he'd have to pour his heart out to the big oaf, and then disappear completely, too ashamed to stay around. "Hi," he had mumbled to the girl, not bothering to look at her for long before shifting his eyes back to the calm waters. Andrew remain uneasy, though, fearful Axel would make his way to the Sound anyway.
So, when Andrew could hear footsteps leading up to the pair sitting quietly, it was rational for his heart to beat faster, for his hands to begin to sweat, regardless of the cold, and for his breaths to become short and choppy. He didn't turn to see who the footsteps belonged to, too fearful that it'd be Axel. But when he saw it was just a girl--her name was Lily, right?--he smiled at her, and mumbled a meek "Hello." And, in response to her likely rhetorical question, "Meh."
